1 Nephi 5:46
And they did murmur against my father because that he had brought them out of the Land of Jerusalem, saying: "Our father is dead, yea, and we have wandered much in the wilderness, And we have suffered much affliction, hunger, thirst and fatigue; And after all these sufferings we must perish in the wilderness with hunger."
1 Nephi 5:56
And we did travail and wade through much affliction in the wilderness; And our women bore children in the wilderness;
1 Nephi 6:17
For behold, I have refined thee- I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
And he saith: "Who is Abinadi, that I and my people should be judged of him? Or who is the Lord that shall bring upon my people such great affliction?
Now this was in the second year of the reign of Alma; And it was a cause of much affliction to the church, Yea, it was the cause of much trial with the church,

But behold, the Nephites were not slow to remember the Lord their God in this, their times of affliction;
For they have used great flattery, And they have led away the hearts of many people, which will be the cause of sore affliction among us; They have withheld our provisions and have daunted our Freemen, that they have not come unto you.
And thus ended the thirty and first year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi; And thus they had had wars and bloodsheds and famine and affliction for the space of many years;
Now this was a great evil which did cause the more humble part of the people to suffer great persecutions and to wade through much affliction.
