But whatsoever things we write upon anything, save it be upon plates, must perish and vanish away, But we can write a few words upon plates which will give our children, and also our beloved brethren, a small degree of knowledge concerning us, or concerning their fathers.
Now in this thing we do rejoice, And we labor diligently to engraven these words upon plates, hoping that our beloved brethren and our children will receive them with thankful hearts, And look upon them, that they may learn with joy and not with sorrow, neither with contempt, concerning their first parents.
Wherefore beloved brethren, be reconciled unto Him through the atonement of Christ, His Only Begotten Son,
And now beloved, marvel not that I tell you these things, For why not speak of the atonement of Christ and attain to a perfect knowledge of Him, as to attain to the knowl- edge of a resurrection and the world to come?
And now my beloved, how is it possible that these, after having rejected the sure foundation, can ever build upon it, that it may become the head of their corner?
Behold, my beloved brethren, I will unfold this mystery unto you, if I do not by any means get shaken from my firmness in the Spirit and stumble because of my overanxiety for you.
Wherefore my beloved brethren, I beseech of you in words of soberness that ye would repent and come with full purpose of heart and cleave unto God as He cleaveth unto you;
O then, my beloved brethren, repent ye and enter ye in at the strait gate! And continue in the way which is narrow until ye shall obtain eternal life;
And now my beloved brethren, I would that ye should come unto Christ, which is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of His salvation and the power of His redemption;
And it came to pass that the people were desirous that Alma should be their king, for he was beloved by his people;
"And now I say unto you, that this is the order after which I am called, Yea, to preach unto my beloved brethren, Yea, and everyone that dwelleth in the land;
Yea, my beloved brethren, I say unto you that the Spirit saith: 'Behold! The glory of the King of all the earth and also the King of heaven shall very soon shine forth among all the children of men!'
"And now my beloved brethren, I say unto you, can ye withstand these sayings? Yea, can ye lay aside these things and trample the Holy One under your feet?
Behold, my beloved brethren, seeing that I have been permitted to come unto you, Therefore, I attempt to address you in my language,
And now my beloved brethren, do you believe these things?
And now my beloved brethren, I have said these things unto you that I might awaken you to a sense of your duty to God, that ye may walk blameless before Him, That ye may walk after the holy order of God, after which ye have been received.
And now my beloved brethren, I have spoken these words unto you according to the Spirit which testifieth in me; And my soul doth exceedingly rejoice because of the exceeding diligence and heed which ye have given unto my word.
"And now my beloved brethren, for ye are my brethren and ye had ought to be beloved, And ye had ought to bring forth works which are meet for repentance, Seeing that your hearts have been grossly hardened against the word of God and seeing that ye are a lost and a fallen people."
Now these are the words which he said unto the people concerning the matter: "I thank my God, my beloved people, that our great God has in goodness sent these our brethren, the Nephites, unto us to preach unto us and to convince us of the traditions of our wicked fathers.
Now, my best beloved brethren, since God hath taken away our stains and our swords have become bright, then let us stain our swords no more with the blood of our brethren.
"For if we had not come up out of the Land of Zarahemla, these, our dearly beloved brethren which have so dearly beloved us, would still have been racked with hatred against us, Yea, and they would also have been strangers to God."
"But behold, my beloved brethren, we came into the wilderness, not with the intent to destroy our brethren, but with the intent that perhaps we might save some few of their souls.
Now when Ammon and his brethren saw this work of destruction among those who they so dearly beloved and among those who had so dearly beloved them- for they were treated as though they were angels sent from God to save them from everlasting destruction-
And thus they were a zealous and beloved people, a highly favored people of the Lord.
"And now my beloved brethren, as ye have desired to know of me what ye shall do because ye are afflicted and cast out- Now I do not desire that ye should suppose that I mean to judge you only according to that which is true,
Yea, I know that these things were taught unto you bountifully before your dissension from among us, And as ye have desired of my beloved brother that he should make known unto you what ye should do because of your afflictions- And he hath spoken somewhat unto you to prepare your minds, Yea, and he hath exhorted you unto faith and to patience,
"And now my beloved brethren, I desire that ye should remember these things, And that ye should work out your salvation with fear before God, And that ye should no more deny the coming of Christ, That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost, But that ye receive it and take upon you the name of Christ, That ye humble yourselves even to the dust and worship God in whatsoever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth,
"And now my beloved brethren, I would exhort you to have patience and that ye bear with all manner of afflictions, That ye do not revile against those who do cast you out because of your exceeding poverty, lest ye become sinners like unto them, But that ye have patience and bear with those afflictions, with a firm hope that ye shall one day rest from all your afflictions."
Now behold, this Lehi was a man who had been with Moroni in the more part of all his battles and he was a man like unto Moroni; And they rejoiced in each other's safety, Yea, they were beloved by each other, and also beloved by all the people of Nephi.
And these are the words which he wrote, saying: "My dearly beloved brother Moroni, as well in the Lord as in the tribulations of our warfare, Behold, my beloved brother, I have somewhat to tell you concerning our warfare in this part of the land.
"And now I say unto you, my beloved brother Moroni, that never had I seen so great courage, nay, not amongst all the Nephites;
"And now my beloved brother Moroni, that the Lord our God who hath redeemed us and made us free may keep you continually in His presence,
"And now, my beloved brethren-for ye had ought to be beloved- Yea, and ye had ought to have stirred yourselves more diligently for the welfare and the freedom of this people;
Therefore, my beloved brother Moroni, let us resist evil; And whatsoever evil we cannot resist with our words- yea, such as rebellions and dissensions- Let us resist them with our swords, that we may retain our freedom, That we may rejoice in the great privilege of our church and in the cause of our Redeemer and our God.
"And now I close mine epistle to my beloved brother, Moroni."
"And now my beloved brethren, Behold, I declare unto you that except ye shall repent, your houses shall be left unto you desolate; Yea, except ye repent, your women shall have great cause to mourn in the day that they shall give suck;
3 Nephi 5:8
And it saith unto them: "Behold My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified My name- Hear ye Him!"
3 Nephi 9:106
For it shall come to pass,' saith the Father, 'that at that day, whosoever will not repent and come unto My beloved Son, Them will I cut off from among My people, O house of Israel, And I will execute vengeance and fury upon them-even as upon the heathen-such as they have not heard!'

And I did endeavor to preach unto this people, But my mouth was shut and I was forbidden that I should preach unto them; For behold, they had willfully rebelled against their God, And the beloved disciples were taken away out of the land because of their iniquity.
That the Father may bring about through His most Beloved His great and eternal purpose in the restoring the Jews, or all the house of Israel, to the land of their inheritance which the Lord their God hath given them, unto the fulfilling of His covenant;
And now I, Mormon, speak unto you, my beloved brethren; And it is by the grace of God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ and His holy will, because of the gift of His calling unto me, that I am permitted to speak unto you at this time;
Wherefore, take heed, my beloved brethren, that ye do not judge that which is evil to be of God, Or that which is good and of God to be of the devil.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, hath miracles ceased because that Christ hath ascended into heaven and hath sat down on the right hand of God to claim of the Father His rights of mercy which He hath upon the children of men?-
And because that He hath done this, my beloved brethren, hath miracles ceased?
And now my beloved brethren, if this be the case, that these things are true which I have spoken unto you- And God will show unto you with power and great glory at the last day that they are true- And if they are true, hath the day of miracles ceased?
But behold, my beloved brethren, I judge better things of you, For I judge that ye have faith in Christ because of your meekness; For if ye have not faith in Him, then ye are not fit to be numbered among the people of His church.
And again, my beloved brethren, I would speak unto you concerning hope;
And charity suffereth long, and is kind and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things- Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity ye are nothing, for charity never faileth;
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, That ye may be filled with this love which He hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of His Son Jesus Christ, That ye may become the sons of God, That when He shall appear, we shall be like Him- for we shall see Him as He is- That we may have this hope, That we may be purified even as He is pure. Amen.
And on this wise did he write unto me, saying: "My beloved son Moroni, I rejoice exceedingly that your Lord Jesus Christ hath been mindful of you and hath called you to His ministry and to His holy work;
"And after this manner did the Holy Ghost manifest the word of God unto me; Wherefore, my beloved son, I know that it is solemn mockery before God that ye should baptize little children.
"My beloved son, I write unto you again that ye may know that I am yet alive; But I write somewhat that which is grievous.
"And now my beloved son, notwithstanding their hardness, let us labor diligently; For if we should cease to labor, we should be brought under condemnation; For we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteous- ness and rest our souls in the kingdom of God.
"O my beloved son, how can a people like this that are without civilization- And only a few years have passed away and they were a civil and a delightsome people- But O my son, how can a people like this, whose delight is in so much abomination- How can we expect that God will stay His hand in judgment against us?
And I would exhort you, my beloved brethren, that ye remember that every good gift cometh of Christ.
And I would exhort you, my beloved brethren, that ye remember that He is the same yesterday, today and forever, And that all these gifts of which I have spoken, which are spiritual, never will be done away, even as long as the world shall stand, only according to the unbelief of the children of men.
