1 Nephi 1:Intro
An account of Lehi and his wife Sariah and his four sons, being called, beginning at the eldest, Laman, Lemuel, Sam and Nephi.The Lord warns Lehi to depart out of the Land of Jerusa- lem because he prophesieth unto the people concerning their iniquity and they seek to destroy his life.He taketh three days' journey into the wilderness with his family.Nephi taketh his brethren and returns to the Land of Jerusalem after the record of the Jews. The account of their sufferings.They take the daughters of Ishmael to wife.They take their families and depart into the wilderness. Their sufferings and afflictions in the wilderness.The course of their travels. They come to the large waters.Nephi's brethren rebelleth against him. He confoundeth them and buildeth a ship.They call the name of the place Bountiful.They cross the large waters into the Promised Land, etc.This is according to the account of Nephi; or in other words, I, Nephi, wrote this record.
1 Nephi 3:87
And I, Nephi, saw that He was lifted up upon the cross and slain for the sins of the world;
1 Nephi 5:87
Yea, and he also thinketh that he can cross these great waters."
Wherefore, we would to God that we could persuade all men not to rebel against God, to provoke Him to anger, But that all men would believe in Christ and view His death and suffer His cross and bear the shame of the world; Wherefore, I, Jacob, take it upon me to fulfill the commandment of my brother Nephi.
And they began to question him that they might cross him, that thereby they might have wherewith to accuse him;
And thus he cleared the ground, or rather the bank, which was on the west of the River Sidon, throwing the bodies of the Lamanites which had been slain into the waters of Sidon, That thereby his people might have room to cross and contend with the Lamanites and the Amlicites on the west side of the River Sidon.
And it came to pass that they began to question Amulek that thereby they might make him cross his words, or contradict the words which he should speak.
And Alma returned and said unto them: "Behold, the Lamanites will cross the River Sidon in the South Wilderness, away up beyond the borders of the Land of Manti;
Now my son, I would that ye should repent and forsake your sins and go no more after the lusts of your eyes, but cross yourself in all these things, For except ye do this, ye can in no wise inherit the kingdom of God;
O remember, and take it upon you and cross yourself in these things.
And it came to pass that as the Lamanites had passed the Hill Riplah and came into the valley and began to cross the River Sidon, The army, which was concealed on the south of the hill, who was led by a man whose name was Lehi, And he led his army forth and encircled the Lamanites about on the east in their rear.
And Lehi retained his armies upon the bank of the River Sidon, that they should not cross.
Neither durst they march down against the City of Zarahemla; Neither durst they cross the head of Sidon over to the City of Nephihah;
Nevertheless, they caused that Nephi should be taken and bound and brought before the multitude; And they began to question him in divers ways, that they might cross him, that they might accuse him, to death,
3 Nephi 5:78
"Behold, I give unto you a commandment that ye suffer none of these things to enter into your heart, For it is better that ye should deny yourselves of these things, wherein ye will take up your cross, than that ye should be cast into hell.
3 Nephi 12:26
And My Father sent Me that I might be lifted up upon the cross; And after that I had been lifted up upon the cross, I might draw all men unto Me;
And it came to pass that they did travel in the wilderness, And did build barges in the which they did cross many waters, being directed continually by the hand of the Lord.
Behold, O Lord, wilt Thou suffer that we shall cross this great water in darkness?"
And behold, I prepare you against these things; For howbeit, ye cannot cross this great deep, save I prepare you against the waves of the sea, and the winds which have gone forth, and the floods which shall come;
"And I know, O Lord, that Thou hast all power and can do whatsoever Thou wilt for the benefit of man; Therefore, touch these stones, O Lord, with Thy finger and prepare them that they may shine forth in darkness, And they shall shine forth unto us in the vessels which we have prepared, that we may have light while we shall cross the sea;
And the Lord commanded the brother of Jared to go down out of the mount from the presence of the Lord and write the things which he had seen; And they were forbidden to come unto the children of men until after that He should be lifted up upon the cross;
And thus the Lord caused stones to shine in darkness to give light unto men, women and children, that they might not cross the great waters in darkness.
