Behold, I, Amaleki, was born in the days of Mosiah, And I have lived to see his death; And Benjamin his son reigneth in his stead.
'And lo, He shall suffer temptations and pain of body, hunger, thirst and fatigue, even more than man can suffer, except it be unto death;
"And now for this cause have I suffered that ye should be preserved-that I might inquire of you- Or else I should have caused that my guards should have put you to death. "Ye are permitted to speak."
And now because he said this, they did put him to death. "And many more things did they do which brought down the wrath of God upon them;
And He made His grave with the wicked and with the rich in His death, Because He had done no evil, Neither was any deceit in His mouth.

Yea, even so He shall be led, crucified and slain, the flesh becoming subject even unto death, The will of the Son being swallowed up in the will of the Father.
"And thus God breaketh the bands of death, Having gained the victory over death, giving the Son power to make intercession for the children of men,
standing betwixt them and justice, Having broken the bands of death, taken upon Himself their iniquity and their transgressions, Having redeemed them and satisfied the demands of justice.
"But behold, the bands of death shall be broken; And the Son reigneth and hath power over the dead; Therefore, He bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead.
They are raised to dwell with God who hath redeemed them, Thus they have eternal life through Christ who hath broken the bands of death.
And if Christ had not risen from the dead, or have broken the bands of death that the grave should have no victory and that death should have no sting, there could have been no resurrection.
"But there is a resurrection; Therefore, the grave hath no victory, And the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ.
"He is the light and the life of the world; Yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; Yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death.
And now it came to pass that when Abinadi had finished these sayings, that the king commanded that the priests should take him and cause that he should be put to death.
And he said unto him: "Abinadi, we have found an accusation against thee and thou art worthy of death,
And now for this cause thou shalt be put to death, unless thou wilt recall all the words which thou hast spoken evil concerning me and my people."
yea, and I will suffer, even until death; And I will not recall my words, And they shall stand as a testimony against you;
And it came to pass that they took him and bound him and scourged his skin with fagots, yea, even unto death.
And now when the flames began to scorch him, he cried unto them, saying: "Behold! Even as ye have done unto me, so shall it come to pass that thy seed shall cause that many shall suffer the pains that I do suffer, even the pains of death by fire, And this because they believe in the salvation of the Lord their God.
And in that day, ye shall be hunted and ye shall be taken by the hand of your enemies, And then ye shall suffer, as I suffer, the pains of death by fire;
And now when Abinadi had said these words, he fell, having suffered death by fire, Yea, having been put to death because he would not deny the commandments of God, Having sealed the truth of his words by his death.
Yea, concerning that which was to come, And also concerning the resurrection of the dead and the redemption of the people, which was to be brought to pass through the power and sufferings and death of Christ, And His resurrection and ascension into heaven.
Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn, Yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, And to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, That ye may be redeemed of God and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life-
And the king commanded them that they should not return; And they were angry with the king and caused that he should suffer, even unto death by fire;
And they were about to take the priests also, to put them to death, And they fled before them.
And had they been the priests of Noah, he would have caused that they should be put to death; But when he found that they were not, but that they were his brethren and had come from the Land of Zarahemla, he was filled with exceeding great joy.
And they also did mourn for the death of Abinadi, And also for the departure of Alma and the people that went with him who had formed a church of God, through the strength and power of God and faith on the words which had been spoken by Abinadi;
And it came to pass that Amulon commanded them that they should stop their cries; And he put guards over them to watch them, that whosoever should be found calling upon God should be put to death.
"Nevertheless, after wading through much tribulation, repenting nigh unto death, The Lord in mercy hath seen fit to snatch me out of an everlasting burning, And I am born of God!
And there he was caused, or rather, did acknowledge between the heavens and the earth that what he had taught to the people was contrary to the word of God; And there he suffered an ignominious death.
And they durst not steal for fear of the law, for such were punished; Neither durst they rob nor murder, for he that murdereth was punished unto death.
Being filled with great joy because of the resurrection of the dead according to the will and power and deliverance of Jesus Christ from the bands of death-
Yea, they were encircled about by the bands of death and the chains of hell, And an everlasting destruction did await them.
"And again I ask, were the bands of death broken? And the chains of hell which encircled them about, were they loosed?
What is the cause of their being loosed from the bands of death, yea, and also the chains of hell?
And whosoever doeth this must receive his wages of him, Therefore, for his wages he receiveth death as to things pertaining unto righteousness, being dead unto all good works.
And this that the word might be fulfilled which saith He will take upon Him the pains and the sicknesses of His people; And He will take upon Him death, that He may loose the bands of death which bind His people;
"Therefore, the wicked remain as though there had been no redemption made, except it be the loosing of the bands of death.
"Now there is a death which is called temporal death; And the death of Christ shall loose the bands of this temporal death, that all shall be raised from this temporal death;
"Now behold, I have spoken unto you concerning the death of the mortal body, and also concerning the resurrection of the mortal body;
I say unto you that this mortal body is raised to an immortal body, That is, from death, even from the first death unto life, that they can die no more, Their spirits uniting with their bodies, never to be divided,
Now this is what is meant by the chains of hell. "And Amulek hath spoken plainly concerning death, And being raised from this mortality to a state of immortality, And being brought before the bar of God to be judged according to our works.
"And now behold, I say unto you, then cometh a death, even a second death which is a spiritual death;
Then is a time that whosoever dieth in his sins, as to the temporal death, shall also die a spiritual death; Yea, he shall die as to things pertaining unto righteousness.
"And now behold I say unto you, that if it had been possible for Adam for to have partaken of the fruit of the tree of life at that time, that there would have been no death and the word would have been void, making God a liar, For He said: 'If thou eat thereof, thou shalt surely die.'
"And we see that death comes upon mankind, yea, the death which has been spoken of by Amulek, which is the temporal death; Nevertheless, there was a space granted unto man in which he might repent.
"But behold, it was not so, but it was appointed unto man that they must die; And after death they must come to judgment, even that same judgment of which we have spoken, which is the end.
"Therefore, God gave unto them commandments, after having made known unto them the plan of redemption, that they should not do evil, The penalty thereof being a second death which was an everlasting death as to things pertaining unto righteousness,
Yea, according to His word in the last provocation, as well as in the first, to the everlasting destruction of your souls, Therefore, according to His word, unto the last death as well as the first.
"And may the Lord grant unto you repentance, That ye may not bring down His wrath upon you, That ye may not be bound down by the chains of hell, That ye may not suffer the second death."
And began to assemble themselves together at their sanctuaries to worship God before the altar, Watching and praying continually that they might be delivered from Satan and from death and from destruction-
Holding forth things which must shortly come- Yea, holding forth the coming of the Son of God, His sufferings and death, And the resurrection of the dead.
Now Aaron began to open the scripture unto them concerning the coming of Christ, and also concerning the resurrection of the dead, And that there could be no redemption for mankind save it were through the death and sufferings of Christ and the atonement of His blood.
And since man had fallen, he could not merit anything of himself; But the sufferings and death of Christ atoneth for their sins through faith and repentance, etc.,
And that He breaketh the bands of death, that the grave shall have no victory, And that the sting of death should be swallowed up in the hopes of glory; And Aaron did expound all these things unto the king.
And thus we see that when these Lamanites were brought to believe and to know the truth, that they were firm and would suffer even unto death rather than to commit sin;
And it came to pass that those rulers which were the remnant of the children of Amulon caused that they should be put to death, yea, all those that believed in these things;
And behold, they are hunted at this day by the Lamanites. Thus the words of Abinadi were brought to pass which he said concerning the seed of the priests which caused that he should suffer death by fire;
And now Abinadi was the first that suffered death by fire because of his belief in God; Now this is what he meant, that many should suffer death by fire according as he had suffered;
And he said unto the priests of Noah that their seed should cause many to be put to death in the like manner as he was, And that they should be scattered abroad and slain, even as a sheep having no shepherd is driven and slain by wild beasts;
Behold, He did not exercise His justice upon us, But in His great mercy hath brought us over that everlasting gulf of death and misery, even to the salvation of our souls.
And they never did look upon death with any degree of terror, for their hope and views of Christ and the resurrection; Therefore, death was swallowed up to them by the victory of Christ over it;
Therefore, they would suffer death in the most aggravating and distressing manner which could be inflicted by their brethren before they would take the sword or the scimitar to smite them;
And thus we see the great call of the diligence of men to labor in the vineyards of the Lord; And thus we see the great reason of sorrow, and also of rejoicing- Sorrow, because of death and destruction among men, And joy, because of the light of Christ unto life.
I had not ought to harrow up in my desires the firm decree of a just God, For I know that He granteth unto men according to their desires, whether it be unto death or unto life, Yea, I know that He allotteth unto man, yea, decreeth unto them decrees which are unalterable according to their wills, whether it be unto salvation or unto destruction.
Yea, and I know that good and evil hath come before all men- Or he that knoweth not good from evil is blameless, But he that knoweth good and evil, to him it is given according to his desires, Whether he desireth good or evil, life or death, joy or remorse of conscience.
But if he murdered, he was punished unto death, And if he robbed, he was also punished, And if he stole, he was also punished, And if he committed adultery, he was also punished; Yea, for all this wickedness they were punished, for there was a law that men should be judged according to their crimes;
"And now my brethren, ye see that a second prophet of old has testified of the Son of God, And because the people would not understand his words, they stoned him to death.
"For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance, even until death, Behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, And he doth seal you his;
Now, as my mind caught hold upon this thought, I cried within my heart, O Jesus, Thou Son of God, have mercy on me who art in the gall of bitterness and art encircled about by the everlasting chains of death!
And I have been supported under trials and troubles of every kind, yea, and in all manner of afflictions, Yea, God hath delivered me from prisons and from bonds and from death, Yea, and I do put my trust in Him and He will still deliver me;
Now there must needs be a space betwixt the time of death and the time of the resurrection;
And now I would inquire, what becometh of the souls of men from this time of death to the time appointed for the resurrection?
Therefore, there is a time appointed unto men that they shall rise from the dead, And there is a space between the time of death and the resurrection.
Now concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection-
But whether it be at His resurrection, or after, I do not say. But this much I say-that there is a space between death and the resurrection of the body, and a state of the soul in happiness or in misery, Until the time which is appointed of God that the dead shall come forth and be reunited, both soul and body, And be brought to stand before God and be judged according to their works.
But behold, an awful death cometh upon the wicked, For they die as to things pertaining to things of righteousness, For they are unclean and no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of God;
Now behold, it was not expedient that man should be reclaimed from this temporal death, For that would destroy the great plan of happiness;
Therefore, as the soul could never die, And the fall had brought upon all mankind a spiritual death as well as a temporal- That is, they were cut off from the presence of the Lord- Therefore, it was expedient that mankind should be reclaimed from this spiritual death;
And it came to pass that the Lamanites, when they saw the Nephites coming upon them in their rear, turned them about and began to contend with the army of Lehi; And the work of death commenced on both sides,
But it was more dreadful on the part of the Lamanites, For their nakedness was exposed to the heavy blows of the Nephites with their swords and their scimitars which brought death almost at every stroke, While on the other hand, there was now and then a man fell among the Nephites by their wounds and the loss of blood,
They being shielded from the more vital parts of the body-or the more vital parts of the body being shielded from the strokes of the Lamanites by their breastplates and their armshields and their headplates; And thus the Nephites did carry on the work of death among the Lamanites.
"And now if ye do not this, behold, ye are in our hands, And I will command my men that they shall fall upon you and inflict the wounds of death in your bodies, that ye may become extinct;
And it came to pass that Moroni caused that the work of death should cease again among the people.
And when Alma had done this, he departed out of the Land of Zarahemla as if to go into the Land of Melek. And it came to pass that he was never heard of more; As to his death or burial, we know not of.
But behold, the scripture saith the Lord took Moses unto Himself, And we suppose that He hath also received Alma in the spirit unto Himself, Therefore, for this cause we know nothing concerning his death and burial.
Yea, let us remember the words of Jacob before his death, For behold, he saw that a part of the remnant of the coat of Joseph was preserved and had not decayed.
Now Moroni thought it was not expedient that the Lamanites should have any more strength; Therefore, he thought to cut off the people of Amalickiah, or to take them and bring them back and put Amalickiah to death;
And it came to pass that whomsoever of the Amalickiahites that would not enter into a covenant to support the cause of freedom that they might maintain a free government, he caused to be put to death; And there was but few which denied the covenant of freedom.
Therefore, when the queen had received this message, she sent unto Amalickiah desiring him that he would spare the people of the city, And she also desired him that he should come in unto her, And she also desired him that he should bring witnesses with him to testify concerning the death of the king.
And thus they satisfied the queen concerning the death of the king.
And it came to pass that he sent a petition, with the voice of the people, unto the governor of the land, Desiring that he should heed it and give him, Moroni, power to compel those dissenters to defend their country or to put them to death;
And it came to pass that Teancum stole privily into the tent of the king and put a javelin to his heart; And he did cause the death of the king immediately, that he did not awake his servants.
Now the king, Ammaron, had departed out of the Land of Zarahemla, And had made known unto the queen concerning the death of his brother, And had gathered together a large number of men, And had marched forth against the Nephites on the borders by the West Sea;
Now these are the words which he wrote unto Ammaron, saying: "Behold, Ammaron, I have written unto you somewhat concerning this war which ye have waged against my people, Or rather, which thy brother hath waged against them and which ye are still determined to carry on after his death.
But, as the Lord liveth, our armies shall come upon you, except ye withdraw, And ye shall soon be visited with death; For we will retake our cities and our lands, Yea, and we will maintain our religion and the cause of our God.
"Behold, I know that place where the Lamanites doth guard my people which they have taken prisoners; And as Ammaron would not grant unto me mine epistle, Behold, I will give unto him according to my words; Yea, I will seek death among them until they shall sue for peace."
"Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; And they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; Yea, they had been taught by their mothers that if they did not doubt, that God would deliver them;

Therefore, it became expedient for Shiblon to confer those sacred things before his death upon the son of Helaman, whose name was called Helaman, being called after the name of his father.
Nevertheless, these things were to be kept sacred and handed down from one generation to another; Therefore, in this year they had been conferred upon Helaman before the death of Shiblon.

And Kishcumen and his band which had covenanted with him did mingle themselves among the people in a manner that they all could not be found; But as many as were found were condemned unto death.
And in the fifty and seventh year, they did come down against the Nephites to battle, And they did commence the work of death; Yea, insomuch that in the fifty and eighth year of the reign of the judges, They succeeded in obtaining possession of the Land of Zarahemla, yea, and also all the lands even unto the land which was near the Land Bountiful;
Nevertheless, they caused that Nephi should be taken and bound and brought before the multitude; And they began to question him in divers ways, that they might cross him, that they might accuse him, to death,
"And when ye have seen this, ye shall say: 'From whence cometh this blood? Do we not know that it is the blood of your brother?' "And then shall he tremble and shall look pale, even as if death had come upon him.
Now behold, notwithstanding that great miracle which Nephi had done in telling them concerning the death of the chief judge, They did harden their hearts and did not hearken unto the words of the Lord.
And thus we see that except the Lord doth chasten His people with many afflictions, Yea, except He doth visit them with death and with terror and with famine and with all manner of pestilences, They will not remember Him.
"And behold, again, another sign I give unto you- yea, a sign of His death- For behold, He surely must die that salvation may come;
Yea, behold, this death bringeth to pass the resurrection and redeemeth all mankind from the first death-that spiritual death, For all mankind-by the fall of Adam, being cut off from the presence of the Lord-are considered as dead, both as to things temporal and to things spiritual.
But whosoever repenteth not is hewn down and cast into the fire, And there cometh upon them again a spiritual death, yea, a second death, For they are cut off again as to things pertaining to righteousness.
"Therefore, repent ye, repent ye! Lest by knowing these things and not doing them, ye shall suffer yourselves to come under condemnation and ye are brought down unto this second death.
"But behold, as I said unto you concerning another sign- a sign of His death- Behold, in that day that He shall suffer death, the sun shall be darkened and refuse to give her light unto you, and also the moon and the stars;
And there shall be no light upon the face of the land, even from the time that He shall suffer death, for the space of three days, to the time that He shall rise again from the dead.
He hath given unto you that ye might know good from evil, And He hath given unto you that ye might choose life or death; And ye can do good and be restored unto that which is good, Or have that which is good restored unto you; Or ye can do evil and have that which is evil restored unto you.

Therefore, more blessed are ye, for ye shall never taste of death, But ye shall live to behold all the doings of the Father unto the children of men, Even until all things shall be fulfilled according to the will of the Father, when I shall come in My glory with the powers of heaven;
3 Nephi 13:19
And ye shall never endure the pains of death; But when I shall come in My glory, ye shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye from mortality to immortality; And then shall ye be blessed in the kingdom of My Father.

Behold, I was about to write the names of those who were never to taste of death; But the Lord forbade, Therefore, I write them not, for they are hid from the world;

But behold, since I wrote I have inquired of the Lord, And He hath made it manifest unto me that there must needs be a change wrought upon their bodies or else it needs be that they must taste of death;

And they shall come forth, both small and great, And all shall stand before His bar, being redeemed and loosed from this eternal band of death, Which death is a temporal death.
And it came to pass as he was about to put him to death, the sons of Shule crept into the house of Noah by night and slew him, And broke down the door of the prison and brought out their father, And placed him upon his throne in his own kingdom; Wherefore, the son of Noah did build up his kingdom in his stead.
And it came to pass that Akish began to be jealous of his son; Therefore, he shut him up in prison and kept him upon a little or no food until he had suffered death.
And now the brother of him that suffered death-and his name was Nimrah-was angry with his father because of that which his father had done unto his brother.

And it was by faith that the three disciples obtained a promise that they should not taste of death, And they obtained not the promise until after their faith.
And now after the space of two years and after the death of Shared, Behold, there arose the brother of Shared, And he gave battle unto Coriantumr, in the which Coriantumr did beat him and did pursue him to the Wilderness of Akish.
And it came to pass that they ate and slept and prepared for death on the morrow;

Wo unto such! for they are in danger of death, hell and an endless torment;

For behold, many of the daughters of the Lamanites have they taken prisoners; And after depriving them of that which was most dear and precious above all things- which is chastity and virtue- And after that they had done this thing, they did murder them in a most cruel manner, torturing their bodies even unto death; And after that they have done this, they devour their flesh like unto wild beasts because of the hardness of their hearts; And they do it for a token of bravery.
"My son, be faithful in Christ; And may not the things which I have written grieve thee, to weigh thee down unto death, But may Christ lift thee up; And may His sufferings and death, and the showing His body unto our fathers, and His mercy and longsuffering, and the hope of His glory and of eternal life rest in your mind forever;
