1 Nephi 1:47
And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceeding young, nevertheless, being large in stature,And also having great desires to know of the mysteries of God,
1 Nephi 3:143
And the angel spake unto me, saying: "Behold, the gold and the silver and the silks and the scarlets and the fine-twined linen and the precious clothing and the harlots are the desires of this great and abominable church;
And it came to pass that after I had prayed and labored with all diligence, the Lord said unto me: "I will grant unto thee according to thy desires because of thy faith."
For behold, he did not keep the commandments of God, but he did walk after the desires of his own heart,
Having gone according to their own carnal wills and desires, Having never called upon the Lord while the arms of mercy were extended toward them;
Now, I say unto you, if this be the desires of your hearts, What have you against being baptized in the name of the Lord as a witness before Him that ye have entered into a covenant with Him that ye will serve Him and keep His commandments, that He may pour out His Spirit more abundantly upon you?"
And now when the people had heard these words, they clapped their hands for joy and exclaimed: "This is the desires of our hearts!"
And thus they should impart of their substance of their own free will and good desires toward God, And to those priests that stood in need, yea, and to every needy, naked soul;
And they did afflict the king sorely with their complaints, Therefore, he granted unto them that they should do according to their desires;
And they did humble themselves even to the dust, subjecting themselves to the yoke of bondage, Submitting themselves to be smitten and to be driven to and fro and burdened, according to the desires of their enemies;
Therefore, they relinquished their desires for a king and became exceedingly anxious that every man should have an equal chance throughout all the land,
For as I said unto you from the beginning that I had much desire that ye were not in the state of dilemma like your brethren, Even so I have found that my desires have been gratified.
After having had all things made known unto them, according to their desires and their faith and prayers, of that which has been and which is and which is to come,
And the king inquired of Ammon if it were his desires to dwell in the land among the Lamanites, or among his people.
And a portion of that Spirit dwelleth in me which giveth me knowledge, and also power, according to my faith and desires which are in God."
Now when Ammon saw that he had wrought upon the old king according to his desire, he saith unto him: "If thou wilt grant that my brethren may be cast out of prison, and also that Lamoni may retain his kingdom, And that ye be not displeased with him, but grant that he may do according to his own desires in whatsoever thing he thinketh, And then will I spare thee; Otherwise, I will smite thee to the earth."
And when he saw that Ammon had no desires to destroy him, And when he also saw the great love he had for his son Lamoni, he was astonished exceedingly and saith:
And he also declared unto them that they might have the liberty of worshipping the Lord their God according to their desires in whatsoever place they were in, if it were in the land which was under the reign of King Lamoni;
Now this was wisdom in the Nephites; As the Lamanites were an enemy to them, they would not suffer their afflictions on every hand, And also that they might have a country whither they might flee according to their desires.
And thus they might go forth and preach the word according to their desires. For the king had been converted unto the Lord and all his household;
Now this people again refused to take their arms, And they suffered themselves to be slain according to the desires of their enemy.
I had not ought to harrow up in my desires the firm decree of a just God, For I know that He granteth unto men according to their desires, whether it be unto death or unto life, Yea, I know that He allotteth unto man, yea, decreeth unto them decrees which are unalterable according to their wills, whether it be unto salvation or unto destruction.
Yea, and I know that good and evil hath come before all men- Or he that knoweth not good from evil is blameless, But he that knoweth good and evil, to him it is given according to his desires, Whether he desireth good or evil, life or death, joy or remorse of conscience.
And ye say also that He shall be slain for the sins of the world. "And thus ye lead away this people after the foolish traditions of your fathers and according to your own desires.
Yea, they durst not make use of that which is their own, lest they should offend their priests which do yoke them according to their desires, And hath brought them to believe- by their traditions, and their dreams, and their whims, and their visions, and their pretended mysteries- That they should-if they did not do according to their words-offend some Unknown Being, which they say is God, A Being which never hath been seen nor known, which never was nor never will be."
Now their rulers and their priests and their teachers did not let the people know concerning their desires, Therefore, they found out privily the minds of all the people.
And it is requisite with the justice of God that men should be judged according to their works; And if their works were good in this life and the desires of their hearts were good, that they should also at the last day be restored unto that which is good;
The one, on one hand; the other, on the other- The one, raised to happiness, according to his desires of happiness, or good, according to his desires of good; And the other, to evil, according to his desires of evil, For as he has desired to do evil all the day long, even so shall he have his reward of evil when the night cometh.
yea, and also their liberty, That they might worship God according to their desires; For they knew that if they should fall into the hands of the Lamanites, That whosoever should worship God in spirit and in truth, the true and the living God, the Lamanites would destroy.
And by all that is most dear unto us; Yea, and this is not all- I command you by all the desires which ye have for life that ye deliver up your weapons of war unto us, And we will seek not your blood, but we will spare your lives if ye will go your way and come not again to war against us.
And it came to pass that he did according to his desires, And marched forth into the wilderness and headed the armies of Amalickiah.
And it came to pass that Amalickiah marched with his armies-for he had gained his desires-to the Land of Nephi, to the City of Nephi, which was the chief city;
And now behold, this was wisdom in Moroni, For he had supposed that they would be frightened at the City Ammonihah, And as the City of Noah had hitherto been the weakest part of the land, Therefore, they would march thither to battle; And thus it was according to his desires.
For, said they: "We are weary, therefore, let us take of the wine, And by and by we shall receive wine for our rations which will strengthen us to go against the Nephites." And Laman saith unto them: "You may do according to your desires."
And it came to pass that when he had fortified the City Gid according to his desires, he caused that his prisoners should be taken to the City Bountiful;
"But behold, this is not all- Ye have withheld your provisions from them, Insomuch that many have fought and bled out their lives because of their great desires which they had for the welfare of this people;
And I will come unto you; And if there be any among you that hath a desire for freedom, yea, if there be even a spark of freedom remaining, Behold, I will stir up insurrections among you, even until those who hath desires to usurp power and authority shall become extinct.
And it came to pass that as many as were desirous, unto them it was granted, according to their desires; Therefore, all the prisoners of the Lamanites did join the people of Ammon, And did begin to labor exceedingly, tilling the ground, raising all manner of grain and flocks and herds of every kind;
Because of the fall, our natures have become evil continually- Nevertheless, O Lord, Thou hast given us a commandment that we must call upon Thee, that from Thee we may receive according to our desires.
And now Cohor had a son which was called Nimrod; And Nimrod gave up the kingdom of Cohor unto Shule, And he did gain favor in the eyes of Shule; Wherefore, Shule did bestow great favors upon him, in the which he did do in the kingdom of Shule according to his desires.
