And these are the words which he spake and caused to be written, saying: "My brethren, all ye that have assembled yourselves together, you that can hear my words which I shall speak unto you this day,
But I am like as yourselves, subject to all manner of infirmities in body and mind.
"And even I, myself, have labored with mine own hands that I might serve you, And that ye should not be laden with taxes, And that there should nothing come upon you which was grievous to be borne; And of all these things which I have spoken, ye yourselves are witnesses this day.
"And now I ask, can ye say aught of yourselves? I answer you, Nay,
And I, even I whom ye call your king, am no better than ye yourselves are, for I am also of the dust.
Therefore, as I said unto you that I had served you, walking with a clear conscience before God, Even so, I at this time have caused that ye should assemble yourselves together, that I might be found blameless, And that your blood should not come upon me when I shall stand to be judged of God of the things whereof He hath commanded me concerning you.
"I say unto you that I have caused that ye should assemble yourselves together, that I might rid my garments of your blood at this period of time when I am about to go down to my grave,
"And moreover, I say unto you that I have caused that ye should assemble yourselves together, that I might declare unto you that I can no longer be your teacher nor your king,
"And now I say unto you my brethren, that after ye have known and have been taught all these things, If ye should transgress and go contrary to that which hath been spoken, That ye do withdraw yourselves from the Spirit of the Lord, that it may have no place in you to guide you in wisdom's paths, that ye may be blessed, prospered and preserved-
"And again, believe that ye must repent of your sins and forsake them, And humble yourselves before God and ask in sincerity of heart that He would forgive you;
And humble yourselves, even in the depths of humility, calling on the name of the Lord daily, And standing steadfastly in the faith of that which is to come which was spoken by the mouth of the angel.
"And also, ye yourselves will succor those that stand in need of your succor; Ye will administer of your substance unto him that standeth in need;
"But this much I can tell you: That if ye do not watch yourselves and your thoughts and your words and your deeds, And observe to keep the commandments of God and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, Ye must perish.
"I say unto you, can you imagine to yourselves that ye hear the voice of the Lord saying unto you in that day: 'Come unto Me, ye blessed, For behold, your works have been the works of righteousness upon the face of the earth'?
"Or do ye imagine to yourselves that ye can lie unto the Lord at that day and say: 'Lord, our works have been righteous works upon the face of the earth,' And that He will save you?
"Or otherwise, can ye imagine yourselves brought before the tribunal of God with your souls filled with guilt and remorse, having a remembrance of all your guilt?
"I say unto you, can ye think of being saved when you have yielded yourselves to become subjects to the devil?
Have ye walked, keeping yourselves blameless before God?
Could ye say, if ye were called to die at this time, within yourselves that ye have been sufficiently humble?
And behold, I have come having great hopes and much desire that I should find that ye had humbled yourselves before God, And that ye had continued in the supplicating of His grace, that I should find that ye were blameless before Him,
Why will ye yield yourselves unto him, that he may have power over you to blind your eyes, that ye will not understand the words which are spoken according to their truth?
"And now my brethren, I would that ye should humble yourselves before God and bring forth fruit meet for repentance, that ye may also enter into that rest;
Yea, humble yourselves even as the people in the days of Melchizedek, who was also a high priest after this same order which I have spoken, who also took upon him the high priesthood forever;
But that ye would humble yourselves before the Lord and call on His holy name and watch and pray continually, That ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear; And thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all longsuffering, having faith on the Lord,
And the judge smote them again upon their cheeks and asked: "What say ye for yourselves?"
If ye have such great power, why do ye not deliver yourselves?"
And the chief judge stood before them and smote them again and saith unto them: "If ye have the power of God, deliver yourselves from these bands; And then we will believe that the Lord will destroy this people, according to your words."
And after this manner did he preach, saying: "O ye that are bound down under a foolish and a vain hope, Why do ye yoke yourselves with such foolish things? Why do ye look for a Christ? For no man can know of anything which is to come.
"And ye keep them down, even as it were, in bondage, That ye may glut yourselves with the labors of their hands, That they durst not look up with boldness, And that they durst not enjoy their rights and privileges;
For I do not mean that ye-all of you-have been compelled to humble yourselves, For I verily believe there are some among you which would humble themselves, let them be in whatsoever circumstances he might-
And when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves: 'It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul, Yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, Yea, and it beginneth to be delicious to me.'
Yea, humble yourselves and continue in prayer unto Him- Cry unto Him when ye are in your fields, yea, over all your flocks; Cry unto Him in your houses, yea, over all your household, both morning, midday and evening; Yea, cry unto Him against the power of your enemies; Yea, cry unto Him against the devil which is an enemy to all righteousness;
"And now my beloved brethren, I desire that ye should remember these things, And that ye should work out your salvation with fear before God, And that ye should no more deny the coming of Christ, That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost, But that ye receive it and take upon you the name of Christ, That ye humble yourselves even to the dust and worship God in whatsoever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth,
And they were doing that which they felt it was the duty which they owed to their God, For the Lord had said unto them, and also unto their fathers that, "Inasmuch as ye are not guilty of the first offense, neither the second, Ye shall not suffer yourselves to be slain by the hands of your enemies."
"And now behold, if ye will lay down your arms and subject yourselves to be governed by those to whom the government doth rightly belong, Then will I cause that my people shall lay down their weapons and shall be at war no more.
For behold, I have somewhat to say unto them by the way of condemnation. "For behold, ye yourselves know that ye have been appointed to gather together men, And arm them with swords and with scimitars and all manner of weapons of war of every kind, And send forth against the Lamanites in whatsoever parts they should come into our land.
"And now, my beloved brethren-for ye had ought to be beloved- Yea, and ye had ought to have stirred yourselves more diligently for the welfare and the freedom of this people;
"But why should I say much concerning this matter? For we know not but what ye yourselves are a seeking for authority; We know not but what ye are also traitors to your country;
"Behold, it is time; Yea, the time is now at hand, that except ye do bestir yourselves in the defense of your country and your little ones, the sword of justice doth hang over you- Yea, and it shall fall upon you and visit you even to your utter destruction.
"And now my sons, behold, I have somewhat more to desire of you, Which desire is that ye may not do these things that ye may boast, But that ye may do these things to lay up for yourselves a treasure in heaven, Yea, which is eternal and which fadeth not away; Yea, that ye may have that precious gift of eternal life, which ye have reason to suppose hath been given to our fathers.
And it came to pass that he opened his mouth and said unto them: "Behold, why have ye gathered yourselves together? That I may tell you of your iniquities?
And because of my mourning and lamentation, Ye have gathered yourselves together and do marvel; Yea, and ye have great need to marvel;
"Yea, wo be unto you because of that great abomination which hath come among you! And ye have united yourselves unto it, yea, to that secret band which was established by Gaddianton.
"And now behold, if God gave unto this man such power, Then why should ye dispute among yourselves and say that He hath given unto me no power whereby I may know concerning the judgments that shall come upon you except ye repent?
"But behold, ye have rejected the truth and rebelled against your Holy God; And even at this time, instead of laying up for yourselves treasures in heaven where nothing doth corrupt and where nothing can come which is unclean, Ye are heaping up for yourselves wrath against the day of judgment;
"O ye wicked and ye perverse generation! Ye hardened and ye stiff-necked people! "How long will ye suppose that the Lord will suffer you? Yea, how long will ye suffer yourselves to be led by foolish and blind guides? Yea, how long will ye choose darkness rather than light?
"Therefore, repent ye, repent ye! Lest by knowing these things and not doing them, ye shall suffer yourselves to come under condemnation and ye are brought down unto this second death.
"And now remember, remember, my brethren, That whosoever perisheth, perisheth unto himself; And whosoever doeth iniquity, doeth it unto himself; For behold, ye are free-ye are permitted to act for yourselves; For behold, God hath given unto you a knowledge and He hath made you free-
"And behold, ye do know of yourselves- for ye have witnessed it- That as many of them as are brought to the knowledge of the truth and to know of the wicked and abominable traditions of their fathers and are led to believe the holy scriptures,
Therefore, as many as have come to this-ye know of yourselves-are firm and steadfast in the faith and in the things wherewith they have been made free.
"For behold, had the mighty works been shown unto them which have been shown unto you- Yea, unto them which have dwindled in unbelief because of the traditions of their fathers- Ye can see of yourselves that they never would again have dwindled in unbelief;
3 Nephi 2:8
Or, in other words, yield yourselves up unto us, and unite with us, and become acquainted with our secret works, and become our brethren, That ye may be like unto us- Not our slaves, but our brethren and partners of all our substance.

And now, if ye have imagined up unto yourselves a god which doth vary and in him there is shadow of changing, Then have ye imagined up unto yourselves a god which is not a God of miracles.
And now, O all ye that have imagined up unto yourselves a god which can do no miracles, I would ask of you, Have all these things passed of which I have spoken? Has the end come yet?
Be wise in the days of your probation; Strip yourselves of all uncleanness; Ask not that ye may consume it on your lusts; But ask with a firmness unshaken, that ye will yield to no temptation, But that ye will serve the true and living God.
Yea, come unto Christ and be perfected in Him and deny yourselves of all ungodliness, And if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness and love God with all your might, mind and strength, Then is His grace sufficient for you, that by His grace ye may be perfect in Christ; And if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in no wise deny the power of God.
