Joseph and Sidney continued preaching and counseling with the elders of the Kirtland region until January 10, 1832, when Joseph received the following revelation.
DC 83:22 And, behold, the high priests should travel, and also the elders, and also the lesser priests; but the deacons and teachers should be appointed to watch over the church, to be standing ministers unto the church.
DC 87:5a And now, verily I say unto you, I give unto you a commandment, that you continue in the ministry and presidency, and when you have finished the translation of the prophets, you shall from henceforth preside over the affairs of the church and the school;
