Title Page 1:Intro The Book of Mormon
An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon Upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi
Title Page 1:8 And now if there are faults, they are the mistakes of men; wherefore, condemn not the things of God, that ye may be found spotless at the judgment seat of Christ.
1 Nephi 1:Intro An account of Lehi and his wife Sariah, and his four sons, being called (beginning at the eldest), Laman, Lemuel, Sam, and Nephi. The Lord warns Lehi to depart out of the land of Jerusalem, because he prophesieth unto the people concerning their iniquity; and they seek to destroy his life. He taketh three day's journey into the wilderness with his family. Nephi taketh his brethren and returns to the land of Jerusalem after the record of the Jews. The account of their sufferings. They take the daughters of Ishmael to wife. They take their families and depart into the wilderness. Their sufferings and afflictions in the wilderness. The course of their travels. They come to the large waters. Nephi's brethren rebelleth against him. He confoundeth them, and buildeth a ship. They call the place Bountiful. They cross the large waters into the promised land, &c. This is according to the account of Nephi; or in other words, I, Nephi wrote this record.
1 Nephi 1:14 And after this manner was the language of my father in the praising of his God; for his soul did rejoice, and his whole heart was filled, because of the things which he had seen; yea, which the Lord had shewn unto him.
1 Nephi 1:22 And they also sought his life, that they might take it away.
1 Nephi 1:52 And being grieved because of the hardness of their hearts, I cried unto the Lord for them.
1 Nephi 1:58 And if it so be that they rebel against me, they shall be a scourge unto thy seed, to stir them up in the ways of remembrance.
1 Nephi 1:64 Therefore go, my son, and thou shalt be favored of the Lord, because thou hast not murmured.
1 Nephi 1:66 And it came to pass that when my father had heard these words, he was exceeding glad, for he knew that I had been blessed of the Lord.
1 Nephi 1:104 And it was by night: and I caused that they should hide themselves without the walls.
1 Nephi 1:115 It is better that one man should perish, than that a nation should dwindle and perish in unbelief.
1 Nephi 1:134 And it came to pass that when the servant of Laban beheld my brethren, he began to tremble, and was about to flee from before me, and return to the city of Jerusalem.
1 Nephi 1:174 Wherefore it was wisdom in the Lord that we should carry them with us as we journeyed in the wilderness towards the land of promise.
1 Nephi 2:7 And now I would that ye might know, that after my father Lehi had made an end of prophesying concerning his seed, it came to pass that the Lord spake unto him again, saying, that it was not meet for him, Lehi, that he should take his family into the wilderness alone; but that his sons should take daughters to wife, that they might raise up seed unto the Lord in the land of promise.
1 Nephi 2:8 And it came to pass that the Lord commanded him that I, Nephi, and my brethren, should again return unto the land of Jerusalem, and bring down Ishmael and his family into the wilderness.
1 Nephi 2:11 And it came to pass that the Lord did soften the heart of Ishmael and also his household, insomuch that they took their journey with us down into the wilderness to the tent of our father.
1 Nephi 2:13 And it came to pass in the which rebellion they were desirous to return unto the land of Jerusalem.
1 Nephi 2:25 And now, if ye have choice, go up to the land, and remember the words which I speak unto you, that if ye go ye will also perish; for thus the Spirit of the Lord constraineth me that I should speak.
1 Nephi 2:41 And it came to pass that while my father tarried in the wilderness he spake unto us, saying, Behold, I have dreamed a dream; or in other words, I have seen a vision.
1 Nephi 2:55 And I looked to behold from whence it came; and I saw the head thereof a little way off;
1 Nephi 2:76 And after they had tasted of the fruit they were ashamed, because of those that were scoffing at them; and they fell away into forbidden paths and were lost.
1 Nephi 2:93 And now, as I have spoken concerning these plates, behold, they are not the plates upon which I make a full account of the history of my people;
1 Nephi 2:94 For the plates upon which I make a full account of my people, I have given the name of Nephi;
1 Nephi 3:22 And all these things of which I have spoken, were done as my father dwelt in a tent in the valley of Lemuel.
1 Nephi 3:25 And the Son of God was the Messiah who should come;
1 Nephi 3:43 And when I had spoken these words, the Spirit cried with a loud voice, saying, Hosanna to the Lord, the most high God; for he is God over all the earth, yea, even above all.
1 Nephi 3:53 And I beheld the city of Nazareth: and in the city of Nazareth I beheld a virgin, and she was exceedingly fair and white.
1 Nephi 3:86 And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me again, saying, Look! And I looked and beheld the Lamb of God, that he was taken by the people; yea, the Son of the everlasting God was judged of the world; and I saw and bear record.
1 Nephi 3:119 And the angel said unto me, These are made white in the blood of the Lamb, because of their faith in him.
1 Nephi 3:151 And I beheld the Spirit of the Lord, that it was upon the Gentiles; that they did prosper, and obtain the land for their inheritance; and I beheld that they were white, and exceeding fair and beautiful, like unto my people before they were slain.
1 Nephi 3:154 And I beheld that the power of God was with them; and also that the wrath of God was upon all those that were gathered together against them to battle.
1 Nephi 3:155 And I, Nephi, beheld that the Gentiles that had gone out of captivity were delivered by the power of God out of the hands of all other nations.
1 Nephi 3:209 For behold, this is according to the captivity of the devil, and also according to the justice of God, upon all those who will work wickedness and abomination before him.
1 Nephi 3:229 And it came to pass that I beheld that the great mother of abominations did gather together in multitudes upon the face of all the earth, among all the nations of the Gentiles, to fight against the Lamb of God.
1 Nephi 3:250 And they are sealed up to come forth in their purity according to the truth which is in the Lamb, in the own due time of the Lord, unto the house of Israel.
1 Nephi 3:251 And I, Nephi, heard and bear record, that the name of the apostle of the Lamb was John, according to the word of the angel.
1 Nephi 3:256 And if all the things which I saw are not written, the things which I have written are true. And thus it is. Amen.
1 Nephi 4:4 And they being hard in their hearts, therefore they did not look unto the Lord as they ought.
1 Nephi 4:29 Which covenant the Lord made to our father Abraham, saying, In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
1 Nephi 4:40 Neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary, overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction.
1 Nephi 4:64 And thus I spake unto my brethren. Amen.
1 Nephi 5:3 And now, my brethren, if ye were righteous, and were willing to hearken to the truth, and give heed unto it, that ye might walk uprightly before God, then ye would not murmur because of the truth, and say, Thou speakest hard things against us.
1 Nephi 5:6 Now, all these things were said and done, as my father dwelt in a tent in the valley which he called Lemuel.
1 Nephi 5:8 And thus my father had fulfilled all the commandments of the Lord which had been given unto him.
1 Nephi 5:21 And after we had traveled for the space of many days, we did pitch our tents for the space of a time, that we might again rest ourselves and obtain food for our families.
1 Nephi 5:25 And it came to pass that Laman and Lemuel, and the sons of Ishmael, did begin to murmur exceedingly, because of their sufferings and afflictions in the wilderness; and also my father began to murmur against the Lord his God; yea, and they were all exceeding sorrowful, even that they did murmur against the Lord.
1 Nephi 5:26 Now it came to pass that I, Nephi, having been afflicted with my brethren, because of the loss of my bow; and their bows having lost their spring, it began to be exceeding difficult, yea, insomuch that we could obtain no food.
1 Nephi 5:27 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did speak much unto my brethren, because they had hardened their hearts again, even unto complaining against the Lord their God.
1 Nephi 5:33 And it came to pass that when my father beheld the things which were written upon the ball, he did fear and tremble exceedingly; and also my brethren, and the sons of Ishmael, and our wives.
1 Nephi 5:36 And thus we see, that by small means, the Lord can bring about great things.
1 Nephi 5:47 And thus they did murmur against my father, and also against me; and they were desirous to return again to Jerusalem.
1 Nephi 5:67 And we called the place Bountiful, because of its much fruit.
1 Nephi 5:72 And it came to pass that the Lord told me whither I should go to find ore, that I might make tools.
1 Nephi 5:82 Yea, that I did bring you out of the land of Jerusalem.
1 Nephi 5:89 Neither would they believe that I was instructed of the Lord.
1 Nephi 5:102 And after this manner of language did my brethren murmur and complain against us.
1 Nephi 5:155 And whoso shall lay their hands upon me, shall wither even as a dried reed; and he shall be as nought before the power of God, for God shall smite him.
1 Nephi 5:159 And now, if the Lord has such great power, and has wrought so many miracles among the children of men, how is it that he can not instruct me that I should build a ship?
1 Nephi 5:169 And the Lord did shew me from time to time after what manner I should work the timbers of the ship.
1 Nephi 5:171 But I did build it after the manner which the Lord had shewn unto me; wherefore, it was not after the manner of men.
1 Nephi 5:184 Yea, they were lifted up unto exceeding rudeness.
1 Nephi 5:185 And I, Nephi, began to fear exceedingly, lest the Lord should be angry with us, and smite us, because of our iniquity, that we should be swallowed up in the depths of the sea;
1 Nephi 5:210 And it came to pass that I prayed unto the Lord; and after I had prayed, the winds did cease, and the storm did cease, and there was a great calm.
1 Nephi 5:222 Wherefore, the things which transpired before I made these plates, are, of a truth, more particularly made mention upon the first plates.
1 Nephi 5:224 And that the things which were written, should be kept for the instruction of my people, who should possess the land, and also for other wise purposes, which purposes are known unto the Lord;
1 Nephi 5:257 Every nation, kindred, tongue and people, shall be blessed.
1 Nephi 5:264 Wherefore, it must needs be, that we know concerning them, for they are written upon the plates of brass.
1 Nephi 6:56 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh: they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Savior and thy Redeemer, the mighty one of Jacob.
1 Nephi 7:2 Behold, are they to be understood according to the things which are spiritual, which shall come to pass according to the spirit and not the flesh?
1 Nephi 7:45 And it shall come to pass that all those who will not hear that prophet, shall be cut off from among the people.
1 Nephi 7:62 For he hath no power over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy One of Israel reigneth.
1 Nephi 7:64 But, behold, all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people, shall dwell safely in the Holy One of Israel, if it so be that they will repent.
2 Nephi 1:Intro An account of the death of Lehi. Nephi's brethren rebelleth against him. The Lord warns Nephi to depart into the wilderness. His journeyings in the wilderness, &c.
2 Nephi 1:51 But behold, it was not him, but it was the Spirit of the Lord which was in him, which opened his mouth to utterance, that he could not shut it.
2 Nephi 1:54 But if ye will not hearken unto him, I take away my first blessing, yea, even my blessing, and it shall rest upon him.
2 Nephi 1:61 Nevertheless, Jacob, my first born in the wilderness, thou knowest the greatness of God; and he shall consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain.
2 Nephi 2:50 Remember the words of thy dying father. Amen.
2 Nephi 3:18 And after he had made an end of speaking unto them, he spake unto Sam, saying:
2 Nephi 3:24 And it came to pass that not many days after his death, Laman and Lemuel, and the sons of Ishmael, were angry with me because of the admonitions of the Lord:
2 Nephi 3:66 Behold, my voice shall for ever ascend up unto thee, my rock and mine everlasting God. Amen.
2 Nephi 4:6 But it sufficeth me to say, that they did seek to take away my life.
2 Nephi 4:7 And it came to pass that the Lord did warn me, that I, Nephi, should depart from them, and flee into the wilderness, and all those who would go with me.
2 Nephi 4:11 And after we had journeyed for the space of many days, we did pitch our tents.
2 Nephi 4:12 And my people would that we should call the name of the place Nephi; wherefore, we did call it Nephi.
2 Nephi 4:16 And we began to raise flocks, and herds, and animals of every kind.
2 Nephi 4:18 And it came to pass that we began to prosper exceedingly, and to multiply in the land.
2 Nephi 4:21 And I did teach my people to build buildings, and to work in all manner of wood, and of iron, and of copper, and of brass, and of steel, and of gold, and of silver, and of precious ores, which were in great abundance.
2 Nephi 4:25 But the manner of the construction was like unto the temple of Solomon; and the workmanship thereof was exceeding fine.
2 Nephi 4:27 And it came to pass that they would that I should be their king.
2 Nephi 4:41 And inasmuch as they will not remember me, and hearken unto my words, they shall scourge them even unto destruction.
2 Nephi 4:44 And thirty years had passed away from the time we left Jerusalem.
2 Nephi 4:46 And it came to pass that the Lord God said unto me, Make other plates; and thou shalt engraven many things upon them which are good in my sight, for the profit of thy people.
2 Nephi 4:51 And it sufficeth me to say, that forty years had passed away, and we had already had wars and contentions with our brethren.
2 Nephi 5:2 Behold, my beloved brethren, I, Jacob, having been called of God, and ordained after the manner of his holy order,
2 Nephi 8:1 And now Jacob spake many more things to my people at that time; nevertheless, only these things have I caused to be written; for the things which I have written sufficeth me.
2 Nephi 10:54 What shall then answer the messengers of the nations? That the Lord hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.
2 Nephi 11:2 For behold, Isaiah spake many things which were hard for many of my people to understand; for they know not concerning the manner of prophesying among the Jews.
2 Nephi 11:8 Yea, and my soul delighteth in the words of Isaiah, for I came out from Jerusalem, and mine eyes hath beheld the things of the Jews, and I know that the Jews do understand the things of the prophets, and there is none other people that understand the things which were spoken unto the Jews, like unto them, save it be that they are taught after the manner of the things of the Jews.
2 Nephi 11:70 O the pain, and the anguish of my soul for the loss of the slain of my people!
2 Nephi 12:42 But behold, there shall be many at that day, when I shall proceed to do a marvelous work among them, that I may remember my covenants which I have made unto the children of men, that I may set my hand again the second time to recover my people, which are the house of Israel;
2 Nephi 12:74 And I will shew unto them that fight against my word and against my people, who are of the house of Israel, that I am God, and that I covenanted with Abraham, that I would remember his seed for ever.
2 Nephi 12:100 And now my beloved brethren, I must make an end of my sayings.
2 Nephi 14:8 And when he shall manifest himself unto you in the flesh, the things which he shall say unto you, shall ye observe to do.
2 Nephi 14:12 But behold I say unto you, that ye must pray always, and not faint: that ye must not perform anything unto the Lord, save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul.
2 Nephi 15:2 But behold, there are many that harden their hearts against the Holy Spirit, that it hath no place in them; wherefore, they cast many things away which are written, and esteem them as things of nought.
2 Nephi 15:18 For what I seal on earth, shall be brought against you at the judgment bar; for thus hath the Lord commanded me, and I must obey. Amen.
Jacob 1:Intro The words of his preaching unto his brethren. He confoundeth a man who seeketh to overthrow the doctrine of Christ. A few words concerning the history of the people of Nephi.
Jacob 1:1 For behold, it came to pass that fifty and five years had passed away, from the time that Lehi left Jerusalem; wherefore, Nephi gave me, Jacob, a commandment concerning these small plates, upon which these things are engraven.
Jacob 1:7 Wherefore, we labored diligently among our people, that we might persuade them to come unto Christ, and partake of the goodness of God, that they might enter into his rest, lest by any means he should swear in his wrath they should not enter in, as in the provocation in the days of temptation, while the children of Israel were in the wilderness.
Jacob 1:8 Wherefore, we would to God that we could persuade all men not to rebel against God, to provoke him to anger, but that all men would believe in Christ, and view his death, and suffer his cross, and bear the shame of the world; wherefore, I, Jacob, take it upon me to fulfill the commandment of my brother Nephi.
Jacob 1:9 Now Nephi began to be old, and he saw that he must soon die; wherefore, he anointed a man to be a king and a ruler over his people now, according to the reigns of the kings.
Jacob 1:10 The people having loved Nephi exceedingly, he having been a great protector for them, having wielded the sword of Laban in their defense, and having labored in all his days for their welfare; wherefore, the people were desirous to retain in remembrance his name.
Jacob 1:11 And whoso should reign in his stead, were called by the people, second Nephi, third Nephi, etc., according to the reigns of the kings; and thus they were called by the people, let them be of whatever name they would.
Jacob 1:13 Now the people which were not Lamanites, were Nephites; nevertheless, they were called Nephites, Jacobites, Josephites, Zoramites, Lamanites, Lemuelites, and Ishmaelites.
Jacob 1:14 But I, Jacob, shall not hereafter distinguish them by these names, but I shall call them Lamanites, that seek to destroy the people of Nephi; and those who are friendly to Nephi, I shall call Nephites, or the people of Nephi, according to the reigns of the kings.
Jacob 1:17 Wherefore, I, Jacob, gave unto them these words as I taught them in the temple, having firstly obtained mine errand from the Lord.
Jacob 1:20 Wherefore, by laboring with our mights, their blood might not come upon our garments; otherwise, their blood would come upon our garments, and we would not be found spotless at the last day.
Jacob 2:65 And loose yourselves from the pains of hell, that ye may not become angels to the devil, to be cast into that lake of fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
Jacob 2:68 But many of their proceedings are written upon the larger plates, and their wars, and their contentions, and the reigns of their kings.
Jacob 4:18 Finally, I bid you farewell, until I shall meet you before the pleasing bar of God, which bar striketh the wicked with awful dread and fear. Amen.
Jacob 5:40 And they sought by the power of their arms to destroy us continually;
Jacob 5:41 Wherefore, the people of Nephi did fortify against them with their armies, and with all their might, trusting in the God and rock of their salvation; wherefore, they became as yet, conquerors of their enemies.
Jacob 5:45 And I, Jacob, saw that I must soon go down to my grave; wherefore, I said unto my son Enos, Take these plates.
Enos 1:28 And the Lord said unto me, Thy fathers have also required of me this thing; and it shall be done unto them according to their faith, for their faith was like unto thine.
Enos 1:29 And now it came to pass, that I, Enos, went about among the people of Nephi, prophesying of things to come, and testifying of the things which I had heard and seen.
Enos 1:33 And many of them did eat nothing save it was raw meat; and they were continually seeking to destroy us.
Omni 1:19 Behold, I will speak unto you somewhat concerning Mosiah, who was make king over the land of Zarahemla:
Omni 1:47 Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth, ye will be saved.
Jarom 1:9 And as many are not stiff-necked, and have faith, have communion with the Holy Spirit, which maketh manifest unto the children of men, according to their faith.
Jarom 1:22 But the word of the Lord was verified, which he spake unto our fathers, saying, That inasmuch as ye will keep my commandments, ye shall prosper in the land.
Jarom 1:30 And I, Jarom, do not write more, for the plates are small.
Words of Mormon 1:3 But may God grant that he may survive them, that he may write somewhat concerning them, and somewhat concerning Christ, that perhaps some day it may profit them.
Words of Mormon 1:4 And now, I speak somewhat concerning that which I have written: for after I had made an abridgment from the plates of Nephi, down to the reign of this King Benjamin, of whom Amaleki spake,

Mosiah 6:17 For, in the thirteenth year of my reign in the land of Nephi, away on the south of the land of Shilom, when my people were watering and feeding their flocks, and tilling their lands, a numerous host of Lamanites came upon them, and began to slay them, and to take of their flocks, and the corn of their fields.
Mosiah 6:47 And again: that they were wronged while in the land of their first inheritance, after they had crossed the sea;

Mosiah 9:161 And he caused that his people should watch the land round about, that by some means they might take those priests that fled into the wilderness, who had stolen the daughters of the Lamanites, and that had caused such a great destruction to come upon them;

Mosiah 11:38 And the Lamanites had compassion on Amulon and his brethren, and did not destroy them, because of their wives.
Mosiah 11:39 And Amulon and his brethren did join the Lamanites, and they were traveling in the wilderness in search of the land of Nephi, when they discovered the land of Helam, which was possessed by Alma and his brethren.
Mosiah 11:40 And it came to pass that the Lamanites promised unto Alma and his brethren, that if they would shew them the way which led to the land of Nephi, that they would grant unto them their lives and their liberty.
Mosiah 11:41 But after Alma had shewn them the way that led to the land of Nephi, the Lamanites would not keep their promise; but they set guards round about the land of Helam, over Alma and his brethren.
Mosiah 11:48 And he was king over a numerous people; and he appointed teachers of the brethren of Amulon, in every land which was possessed by his people;
Mosiah 11:77 And now King Mosiah caused that all the people should be gathered together.

Alma 1:103 Now the heads of the Lamanites were shorn; and they were naked, save it were skin, which was girded about their loins, and also their armor, which was girded about them, and their bows, and their arrows, and their stones, and their slings, etc.
Alma 1:108 Therefore whosoever suffered himself to be led away by the Lamanites, was called under that head, and there was a mark set upon him.
Alma 1:111 Now we will return again to the Amlicites, for they also had a mark set upon them; yea, they set the mark upon themselves, yea, even a mark of red upon their foreheads.
Alma 1:115 And again: I will set a mark upon him that fighteth against thee and thy seed.
Alma 1:120 And even so doth every man that is cursed, bring upon himself his own condemnation.
Alma 1:130 And thus ended the fifth year of the reign of the Judges.
Alma 2:6 And it came to pass in the seventh year of the reign of the Judges, there were about three thousand five hundred souls that united themselves to the church of God, and were baptized.
Alma 2:25 Now Alma did not grant unto him the office of being high priest over the church, but he retained the office of high priest unto himself; but he delivered the judgment seat unto Nephihah:
Alma 2:27 And that he might pull down, by the word of God, all the pride and craftiness, and all the contentions which were among his people, seeing no way that he might reclaim them, save it were in bearing down in pure testimony against them,
Alma 3:2 And these are the words which he spake to the people in the church which was established in the city of Zarahemla, according to his own record, saying:
Alma 6:2 Yea, he returned to his own house at Zarahemla to rest himself from the labors which he had performed.
Alma 6:3 And thus ended the ninth year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi.
Alma 6:7 And they were baptized throughout all the land, so that when he had finished his work at Melek, he departed thence, and traveled three days' journey on the north of the land of Melek; and he came to a city which was called Ammonihah.
Alma 7:26 And it shall be according to the fierce anger of the Lord; for he will not suffer you that ye shall live in your iniquities to destroy his people.
Alma 8:2 And it was the same Aminadi who interpreted the writing which was upon the wall of the temple, which was written by the finger of God.
Alma 10:72 And they also did take from them their clothes, that they were naked; and thus they were bound with strong cords, and confined in prison.
Alma 10:110 Now as I said, Alma having seen all these things, therefore he took Amulek and came over to the land of Zarahemla, and took him to his own house, and did administer unto him in his tribulations, and strengthened him in the Lord.
Alma 10:111 And thus ended the tenth year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi.
Alma 11:19 And it was called Desolation of Nehors; for they were of the profession of Nehor, who were slain; and their lands remained desolate.
Alma 11:20 And the Lamanites did not come again to war against the Nephites until the fourteenth year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi.
Alma 11:32 And now after the church having been established throughout all the land, having got the victory over the devil, and the word of God being preached in its purity in all the land; and the Lord pouring out his blessings upon the people;
Alma 11:33 Thus ended the fourteenth year of the reign of the Judges, over the people of Nephi.
Alma 12:12 And this they did that they might provide food for themselves while in the wilderness:
Alma 12:76 And they said unto him, Behold, he is feeding thy horses.
Alma 12:77 Now the king had commanded his servants previous to the time of the watering of their flocks, that they should prepare his horses and chariots, and conduct him forth to the land of Nephi:
Alma 12:121 And it came to pass that after he had said all these things, and expounded them to the king, that the king believed all his words.
Alma 12:180 And we see that his arm is extended to all people who will repent and believe on his name.
Alma 12:181 And it came to pass that when they had established a church in that land, that King Lamoni desired that Ammon should go with him to the land of Nephi, that he might shew him unto his father.
Alma 13:30 Now as Ammon was thus teaching the people of Lamoni continually, we will return to the account of Aaron and his other brethren;
Alma 13:69 Which ran from the sea east, even to the sea west, and round about on the borders of the sea-shore, and the borders of the wilderness which was on the north, by the land of Zarahemla, through the borders of Manti, by the head of the river Sidon, running from the east towards the west; and thus were the Lamanites and the Nephites divided.
Alma 13:70 Now the more idle part of the Lamanites lived in the wilderness, and dwelt in tents; and they were spread through the wilderness, on the west, in the land of Nephi:
Alma 13:76 And now it was only the distance of a day and a half's journey for a Nephite, on the line Bountiful, and the land Desolation, from the east to the west sea;
Alma 13:79 And thus the Nephites in their wisdom, with their guards and their armies, had hemmed in the Lamanites on the south, that thereby they should have no more possession on the north, that they might not overrun the land northward;
Alma 14:12 They did lay down the weapons of their rebellion, that they did not fight against God any more, neither against any of their brethren.
Alma 14:47 And thus we see, that they buried the weapons of peace, or they buried the weapons of war, for peace.
Alma 14:72 And now behold, these words were verified, for they were driven by the Lamanites and they were hunted, and they were smitten.
Alma 14:104 Yea, and it shall be given unto such, to bring thousands of souls to repentance, even as it has been given unto us to bring these our brethren to repentance.
Alma 14:128 Now this is my joy, and my great thanksgiving; yea, and I will give thanks unto my God for ever. Amen.
Alma 15:13 And now it came to pass that Ammon went and told the king all the words which the Lord had said unto him.
Alma 15:20 And now it came to pass that Alma conducted his brethren back to the land of Zarahemla; even to his own house.
Alma 15:23 And it came to pass that the voice of the people came, saying: Behold, we will give up the land of Jershon, which is on the east by the sea, which joins the land Bountiful, which is on the south of the land Bountiful; and this land Jershon is the land which we will give unto our brethren for an inheritance.
Alma 15:29 And they went down into the land of Jershon, and took possession of the land of Jershon; and they were called by the Nephites the people of Ammon;
Alma 15:37 And thus there was a tremendous battle; yea, even such an one as never had been known among all the people in the land from the time Lehi left Jerusalem; yea, and tens of thousands of the Lamanites were slain and scattered abroad.
Alma 15:38 Yea, and also there was a tremendous slaughter among the people of Nephi; nevertheless, the Lamanites were driven and scattered, and the people of Nephi returned again to their land.
Alma 15:41 And thus the cry of mourning was heard among every one of them: mourning for their kindred who had been slain.
Alma 15:42 And now surely this was a sorrowful day; yea, a time of solemnity and a time of much fasting and prayer: and thus ended the fifteenth year of the reign of the Judges of the people of Nephi;
Alma 15:64 Yea, I have always remembered the captivity of my fathers; and that same God who delivered them out of the hands of the Egyptians, did deliver them out of bondage; yea, and that same God did establish his church among them;
Alma 16:2 Now their dead were not numbered, because of the greatness of their numbers, neither were the dead of the Nephites numbered;
Alma 16:4 And they were strict in observing the ordinances of God, according to the Law of Moses; for they were taught to keep the Law of Moses, until it should be fulfilled;
Alma 16:252 And thus the Zoramites and the Lamanites began to make preparations for war against the people of Ammon, and also against the Nephites.
Alma 17:30 And ye ought to know also, that inasmuch as ye will not keep the commandments of God, ye shall be cut off from his presence. Now this is according to his word.
Alma 20:20 And it came to pass that he met the Lamanites in the borders of Jershon, and his people were armed with swords, and with cimeters, and all manner of weapons of war.
Alma 20:98 And the armies of the Nephites, or of Moroni, returned, and came to their houses, and their lands.
Alma 20:99 And thus ended the eighteenth year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi.
Alma 20:100 And thus ended the record of Alma, which was written upon the plates of Nephi.
Alma 21:Intro The account of the people of Nephi, and their wars and dissensions, in the days of Helaman, according to the record of Helaman, which he kept in his days.
Alma 21:2 Therefore they gave thanks unto the Lord their God: yea, and they did fast much and pray much, and they did worship God with exceeding great joy.
Alma 21:9 And these are the words: Behold, I perceive that this very people, the Nephites, according to the spirit of revelation which is in me, in four hundred years from the time that Jesus Christ shall manifest himself unto them, shall dwindle in unbelief;
Alma 21:12 Yea, I say unto you, that because they shall sin against so great light and knowledge; yea, I say unto you, that from that day, even the fourth generation shall not all pass away, before this great iniquity shall come;
Alma 21:22 But behold, the scriptures saith the Lord took Moses unto himself; and we suppose that he has also received Alma in the spirit, unto himself; therefore, for this cause we know nothing concerning his death and burial.
Alma 21:24 For behold, because of their wars with the Lamanites, and the many little dissensions and disturbances, which had been among the people, it became expedient that the word of God should be declared among them; yea, and that a regulation should be made throughout the church;
Alma 21:35 And there were many in the church who believed in the flattering words of Amalickiah, therefore they dissented even from the church;
Alma 21:61 And now it came to pass that when Moroni had said these words, he went forth and also sent forth in all the parts of the land where there were dissensions, and gathered together all the people who were desirous to maintain their liberty, to stand against Amalickiah, and those who had dissented, who were called Amalickiahites.
Alma 21:77 But there were many who died with old age; and those who died in the faith of Christ, are happy in him, as we must needs suppose.
Alma 21:100 Now when Lehonti was dead, the Lamanites appointed Amalickiah to be their leader and chief commander.
Alma 21:112 And the army which pursued after them, returned, having pursued after them in vain: and thus Amalickiah, by his fraud, gained the hearts of the people.
Alma 21:119 And it came to pass that Amalickiah sought the favor of the queen, and took her unto him to wife; and thus by his fraud, and by the assistance of his cunning servants, he obtained the kingdom;
Alma 21:122 Drinking in with the traditions of the Lamanites, giving way to indolence, and all manner of lasciviousness; yea, entirely forgetting the Lord their God.
Alma 21:159 And it came to pass that the Lamanites, or the Amalickiahites, were exceedingly astonished at their manner of preparation for war.
Alma 21:180 And it came to pass, that when the Lamanites saw that their chief captains were all slain, they fled into the wilderness.
Alma 21:183 Yea, he was exceeding wroth, and he did curse God, and also Moroni, and swearing with an oath that he would drink his blood; and this because Moroni had kept the commandments of God in preparing for the safety of his people.
Alma 21:184 And it came to pass, that on the other hand, the people of Nephi did thank the Lord their God, because of his matchless power in delivering them from the hands of their enemies.
Alma 22:7 And it came to pass that Moroni caused that his armies should go forth into the east wilderness; yea, and they went forth, and drove all the Lamanites who were in the east wilderness into their own lands, which were south of the land of Zarahemla;
Alma 22:10 And he also placed armies on the south, in the borders of their possessions, and caused them to erect fortifications that they might secure their armies and their people from the hands of their enemies.
Alma 22:16 And they also began, in that same year, to build many cities on the north; one in a particular manner which they called Lehi, which was in the north, by the borders of the sea-shore. And thus ended the twentieth year.
Alma 22:21 But remember, inasmuch as they will not keep my commandments, they shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord.
Alma 22:23 And those who were faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord, were delivered at all times, whilst thousands of their wicked brethren have been consigned to bondage, or to perish by the sword, or to dwindle in unbelief, and mingle with the Lamanites.
Alma 22:25 And it came to pass that the twenty and second year of the reign of the Judges, also ended in peace; yea, and also the twenty and third year.
Alma 22:32 And it came to pass that she fled, and came over to the camp of Moroni, and told Moroni all things concerning the matter; and also concerning their intentions to flee into the land northward.
Alma 22:37 And so stubborn were the people of Morianton, (being inspired by his wickedness and his flattering words,) that a battle commenced between them, in which Teancum did slay Morianton, and defeat his army, and took them prisoners, and returned to the camp of Moroni.
Alma 22:39 And upon their covenanting to keep the peace, they were restored to the land of Morianton, and a union took place between them and the people of Lehi; and they were also restored to their lands.
Alma 22:43 Yea, to support and maintain the cause of God all his days, and to bring the wicked to justice, according to their crime. Now behold, his name was Pahoran.
Alma 22:44 And Pahoran did fill the seat of his father, and did commence his reign in the end of the twenty and fourth year, over the people of Nephi.
Alma 23:9 Now those who were in favor of kings, were those of high birth; and they sought to be kings; and they were supported by those who sought power and authority over the people.
Alma 23:43 And he caused that his armies should stand in readiness, lest the Lamanites had awakened, and should come upon them.
Alma 23:44 And thus ended the twenty and fifth year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi; and thus ended the days of Amalickiah.
Alma 24:15 And thus he was endeavoring to harass the Nephites and to draw away a part of their forces to that part of the land, while he had commanded those whom he had left to possess the cities which he had taken, that they should also harass the Nephites on the borders by the east sea; and should take possession of their lands as much as it was in their power, according to the power of their armies.
Alma 24:20 Therefore he abandoned his designs, and returned again to the city Bountiful, to wait for the coming of Moroni that he might receive strength to his army.
Alma 24:51 And Moroni went to the city of Mulek with Lehi, and took command of the city, and gave it unto Lehi.
Alma 24:58 Now Moroni was compelled to cause the Lamanites to labor, because it was easy to guard them while at their labor; and he desired all his forces, when he should make an attack upon the Lamanites.
Alma 24:78 And now it came to pass that Helaman did march at the head of his two thousand stripling soldiers, to the support of the people in the borders of the land on the south by the west sea.
Alma 25:5 Now these are the words which he wrote unto Ammoron, saying, Behold, Ammoron, I have written unto you somewhat concerning this war which ye have waged against my people, or rather which thy brother hath waged against them, and which ye are still determined to carry on after his death.
Alma 25:26 Behold, this war hath been waged, to avenge their wrongs, and to maintain and to obtain their rights to the government; and I close my epistle to Moroni.
Alma 25:62 For behold, the Lamanites had, by their labors, fortified the city of Morianton until it had become an exceeding stronghold; and they were continually bringing new forces into that city, and also new supplies of provisions.
Alma 26:2 And these are the words which he wrote, saying, My dearly beloved brother, Moroni, as well in the Lord as in the tribulations of our warfare; behold, my beloved brother, I have somewhat to tell you concerning our warfare in this part of the land.
Alma 26:13 And the Lamanites had also retained many prisoners, all of whom are chief captains; for none other have they spared alive.
Alma 26:63 Now when the people of Antipus saw that the Lamanites had turned them about, they gathered together their men, and came again upon the rear of the Lamanites.
Alma 26:163 But behold, it mattereth not; we trust God will deliver us, notwithstanding the weakness of our armies, yea, and deliver us out of the hands of our enemies.
Alma 26:170 And now behold, I close mine epistle. I am Helaman, the son of Alma.
Alma 29:11 And thus it became expedient that this law should be strictly observed, for the safety of their country; yea, and whosoever was found denying their freedom, was speedily executed according to the law.
Alma 29:12 And thus ended the thirtieth year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi: Moroni and Pahoran having restored peace to the land of Zarahemla, among their own people, having inflicted death upon all those who were not true to the cause of freedom.
Alma 29:47 Now it came to pass that Moroni marched forth on the morrow, and came upon the Lamanites, insomuch that they did slay them with a great slaughter; and they did drive them out of the land: and they did flee, even that they did not return at that time against the Nephites.
Alma 29:48 And thus ended the thirty and first year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi; and thus they had had wars, and bloodsheds, and famine, and affliction for the space of many years.
Alma 29:51 And many were softened, because of their afflictions, insomuch that they did humble themselves before God, even in the depth of humility.
Alma 29:57 And their judges, and their chief judges were chosen.
Alma 29:62 And it came to pass that all these things were done.
Alma 29:63 And Helaman died, in the thirty and fifth year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi.
Alma 30:19 And also in this same year, they came down with a numerous army to war against the people of Moronihah, or against the army of Moronihah, in the which they were beaten, and driven back again to their own lands, suffering great loss.
Helaman 1:Intro An account of the Nephites. Their wars and contentions, and their dissensions. And also the prophecies of many holy prophets, before the coming of Christ, according to the record of Helaman, who was the son of Helaman, and also according to the records of his sons, even down to the coming of Christ. And also many of the Lamanites are converted. An account of their conversion. An account of the righteousness of the Lamanites, and the wickedness and abominations of the Nephites, according to the record of Helaman and his sons, even down to the coming of Christ, which is called the book of Helaman, etc.
Helaman 1:4 Now these are not all the sons of Pahoran, (for he had many,) but these are they who did contend for the judgment seat; therefore, they did cause three divisions among the people.
Helaman 1:10 And he was pursued by the servants of Pahoran; but behold, so speedy was the flight of Kishkumen, that no man could overtake him.
Helaman 1:49 And they took their flight out of the land, by a secret way, into the wilderness; and thus when Helaman sent forth to take them, they could nowhere be found. And more of this Gadianton shall be spoken hereafter.
Helaman 1:50 And thus ended the forty and second year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi.
Helaman 1:51 And behold, in the end of this book, ye shall see that this Gadianton did prove the overthrow, yea, almost the entire destruction of the people of Nephi.
Helaman 1:52 Behold I do not mean the end of the book of Helaman, but I mean the end of the book of Nephi, from which I have taken all the account which I have written.
Helaman 2:14 But behold, there are many books and many records of every kind, and they have been kept chiefly by the Nephites; and they have been handed down from one generation to another, by the Nephites, even until they have fallen into transgression, and have been murdered, plundered and hunted, and driven forth, and slain, and scattered upon the face of the earth, and mixed with the Lamanites until they are no more called the Nephites, becoming wicked, and wild, and ferocious, yea, even becoming Lamanites.
Helaman 2:18 Nevertheless, Helaman did fill the judgment seat with justice and equity; yea, he did observe to keep the statutes, and the judgments, and the commandments of God; and he did do that which was right in the sight of God continually; and he did walk after the ways of his father, insomuch that he did prosper in the land.
Helaman 2:19 And it came to pass that he had two sons. He gave unto the eldest the name of Nephi, and unto the youngest the name of Lehi. And they began to grow up unto the Lord.
Helaman 2:32 And it came to pass that the fifty and second year ended in peace also, save it were the exceeding great pride which had gotten into the hearts of the people; and it was because of their exceeding great riches, and their prosperity in the land; and it did grow upon them from day to day.
Helaman 2:44 Now this great loss of the Nephites, and the great slaughter which was among them, would not have happened, had it not been for their wickedness and their abomination which was among them; yea, and it was among those also who professed to belong to the church of God:
Helaman 2:46 And because of this their great wickedness, and their boastings in their own strength, they were left in their own strength; therefore they did not prosper, but were afflicted and smitten, and driven before the Lamanites, until they had lost possession of almost all their lands.
Helaman 2:62 And thus had they fallen into this great transgression; yea, thus had they become weak, because of their transgression, in the space of not many years.
Helaman 2:65 Yea, and this was not all; they were a stiff-necked people, insomuch that they could not be governed by the law nor justice, save it were to their destruction.
Helaman 2:76 And it came to pass that these were the words which Helaman taught to his sons; yea, he did teach them many things which are not written, and also many things which are written.
Helaman 2:77 And they did remember his words; and therefore they went forth, keeping the commandments of God, to teach the word of God among all the people of Nephi, beginning at the city Bountiful; and from thence forth to the city of Gid; and from the city of Gid to the city of Mulek;
Helaman 2:79 And it came to pass that they did preach with great power, insomuch that they did confound many of those dissenters who had gone over from the Nephites insomuch that they came forth and did confess their sins, and were baptized unto repentance, and immediately returned to the Nephites, to endeavor to repair unto them the wrongs which they had done.
Helaman 2:81 Therefore they did speak unto the great astonishment of the Lamanites, to the convincing them, insomuch that there were eight thousand of the Lamanites who were in the land of Zarahemla and round about, baptized unto repentance, and were convinced of the wickedness of the traditions of their fathers.
Helaman 2:84 And after they had been cast into prison many days without food, behold, they went forth into the prison to take them, that they might slay them.
Helaman 2:85 And it came to pass that Nephi and Lehi were encircled about as if by fire, even insomuch that they durst not lay their hands upon them, for fear, lest they should be burned.
Helaman 2:88 For they saw that the Lamanites durst not lay their hands upon them; neither durst they come near unto them, but stood as if they were struck dumb with amazement.
Helaman 2:99 Now there was one among them who was a Nephite by birth, who had once belonged to the church of God, but had dissented from them.
Helaman 2:102 And it came to pass that this man did cry unto the multitude, that they might turn and look.
Helaman 2:109 And it came to pass that when they cast their eyes about, and saw that the cloud of darkness was dispersed from overshadowing them, and behold, they saw that they were encircled about, yea, every soul, by a pillar of fire.
Helaman 2:123 Yea, and many did preach with exceeding great power and authority, unto the bringing down many of them into the depths of humility, to be the humble followers of God and the Lamb.
Helaman 2:158 Yea, the more part of them had turned out of the way of righteousness, and did trample under their feet the commandments of God, and did turn unto their own ways, and did build up unto themselves idols of their gold and their silver.
Helaman 2:167 And thus we see that they were in an awful state, and ripening for an everlasting destruction.
Helaman 2:168 And it came to pass that thus ended the sixty and eighth year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi.
Helaman 3:Intro The prophecy of Nephi, the son of Helaman. God threatens the people of Nephi, that he will visit them in his anger, to their utter destruction, except they repent of their wickedness. God smiteth the people of Nephi with pestilence; they repent and turn unto him. Samuel, a Lamanite, prophesies unto the Nephites.
Helaman 3:4 And moreover, to be held in office, at the head of government, to rule and do according to their wills, that they might get gain and glory of the world; and moreover that they might the more easy commit adultery, and steal, and kill, and do according to their own wills.
Helaman 3:5 Now this great iniquity had come upon the Nephites, in the space of not many years; and when Nephi saw it, his heart was swollen with sorrow within his breast;
Helaman 3:9 But behold, I am consigned that these are my days, and that my soul shall be filled with sorrow, because of this the wickedness of my brethren.
Helaman 3:10 And behold, now it came to pass that it was upon a tower, which was in the garden of Nephi, which was by the highway which led to the chief market, which was in the city of Zarahemla;
Helaman 3:11 Therefore Nephi had bowed himself upon the tower which was in his garden, which tower was also near unto the garden gate which led by the highway.
Helaman 3:12 And it came to pass that there were certain men passing by, and saw Nephi as he was pouring out his soul unto God upon the tower, and they ran and told the people what they had seen, and the people came together in multitudes that they might know the cause of so great mourning for the wickedness of the people.
Helaman 3:31 Behold now I do not say that these things shall be, of myself, because it is not of myself that I know these things; but behold, I know that these things are true, because the Lord God has made them known unto me; therefore I testify that they shall be.
Helaman 3:34 Why seest thou this man and hearest him revile against this people and against our law?
Helaman 3:38 And now we know that this is impossible; for behold we are powerful, and our cities great; therefore our enemies can have no power over us.
Helaman 3:41 And behold they are many; and he knoweth as well all things which shall befall us as he knoweth of our iniquities; yea, and behold if he had not been a prophet he could not have testified concerning those things.
Helaman 3:58 But behold, this is not all. Our father Lehi was driven out of Jerusalem, because he testified of these things.
Helaman 3:66 And behold, they both belong to your secret band, whose author is Gadianton, and the evil one who seeketh to destroy the souls of men.
Helaman 3:70 And it came to pass that they ran in their might, and came in unto the judgment seat; and behold the chief judge had fallen to the earth, and did lie in his blood.
Helaman 3:71 And now behold, when they saw this, they were astonished exceedingly, insomuch that they fell to the earth; for they had not believed the words which Nephi had spoken concerning the chief judge;
Helaman 3:74 And behold the people did gather themselves together unto the place of the judgment seat: and behold, to their astonishment, they saw those five men who had fallen to the earth.
Helaman 3:78 And it came to pass that on the morrow, the people did assemble themselves together to mourn and to fast, at the burial of the great chief judge, who had been slain.
Helaman 3:82 And it came to pass that the judges desired that they should be brought; and they were brought, and behold they were the five who were sent;
Helaman 3:83 And behold the judges inquired of them to know concerning the matter, and they told them all that they had done, saying, We ran and came to the place of the judgment seat, and when we saw all things, even as Nephi had testified, we were astonished, insomuch that we fell to the earth; and when we were recovered from our astonishment, behold they cast us into prison.
Helaman 3:84 Now as for the murder of this man, we know not who has done it, and only this much we know, we ran and came according as ye desired, and behold he was dead according to the words of Nephi.
Helaman 3:87 And it came to pass that the five were liberated on the day of the burial.
Helaman 3:88 Nevertheless, they did rebuke the judges in the words which they had spoken against Nephi, and did contend with them one by one, insomuch that they did confound them.
Helaman 3:90 Saying unto him, Thou art confederate; who is this man that has done this murder? Now tell us, and acknowledge thy fault, saying, Behold here is money; and also we will grant unto thee thy life, it thou wilt tell us and acknowledge the agreement which thou hast made with him.
Helaman 3:96 And now behold, I will shew unto you another sign, and see if ye will in this thing seek to destroy me.
Helaman 3:103 And then shall greater fear come upon him; and then shall he confess unto you, and deny no more that he has done this murder.
Helaman 3:105 And then shall ye know that I am an honest man, and that I am sent unto you from God.
Helaman 3:107 And behold, the words which he had said were true; for according to the words, he did deny; and also according to the words he did confess.
Helaman 3:108 And he was brought to prove that he himself was the very murderer, insomuch that the five were set at liberty; and also was Nephi.

Helaman 3:117 And now because thou hast done this with such unwearyingness, behold, I will bless thee for ever; and I will make thee mighty in word and in deed, in faith and in works; yea, even that all things shall be done unto thee according to thy word, for thou shalt not ask that which is contrary to my will.
