Salvation is ultimately a restoration to ones desires while on this earth

 

Alma 15:55 I ought not to harrow up in my desires, the firm decree of a just God, for I know that he granteth unto men according to their desire, whether it be unto death or unto life; yea, I know that he allotteth unto men, yea, decreeth unto them decrees which are unalterable, according to their wills; whether they be unto salvation or unto destruction;

 

Alma 15:56 Yea, and I know that good and evil have come before all men; or he that knoweth not good from evil is blameless; but he that knoweth good and evil, to him it is given according to his desires; whether he desireth good or evil, life or death, joy or remorse of conscience.

Desires can be for the good or the bad

Ephesians 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

DC 2:2b for although a man may have many revelations, and have power to do many mighty works, yet, if he boast in his own strength, and sets at naught the counsels of God, and follows after the dictates of his own will and carnal desires, he must fall and incur the vengeance of a just God upon him.

 

DC 10:4aVerily, verily I say unto you, Even as you desire of me, so shall it be done unto you; and, if you desire you shall be the means of doing much good in this generation.

John the Revelator's Extension of mortality granted because of his desires

DC 7:3 Verily I say unto you, Ye shall both have according to your desires, for ye both joy in that which ye have desired.

You can be baptized for desiring

DC 17:7a And again by way of commandment to the church concerning the manner of baptism:

 

DC 17:7b All those who humble themselves before God and desire to be baptized, and come forth with broken hearts and contrite) spirits, and witness before the church that they have truly repented of all their sins,

 

DC 17:7c and are willing to take upon them the name of Jesus Christ, having a determination to serve him to the end,

 

DC 17:7d and truly manifest by their works that they have received of the Spirit of Christ unto the remission of their sins,) shall be received by baptism into his church.
